The PDP Renaissance group has lauded the peace-building strides of the reconciliation team led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, crediting the committee’s work as essential in averting a crisis that could have fractured the party.
In a statement on Thursday, August 28, group convener Bashir Sulaiman expressed deep appreciation for both Saraki’s Reconciliation and Strategy Committee and the PDP Governors’ Forum, currently chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, for their role in “restoring peace where many expected chaos.”
“I am very impressed by what Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, and PDP Governors’ Forum led by Governor Bala Mohammed have done to get the PDP back on track,” Sulaiman stated.
“They were tasked with resolving disputes and preparing the party for its convention, and they have delivered with precision and dedication.”
The PDP had faced considerable internal turmoil after the 2023 general elections, with prominent leaders including Sunday Udeh-Okoye, Setonji Koshoedo, and Sam Anyanwu each staking a claim to the National Secretary position.
Sulaiman highlighted that Saraki’s decisive involvement was key to settling the protracted standoff, ultimately leading to Anyanwu’s emergence as the party’s National Secretary.
“Many doubted the party’s ability to withstand its internal divides. However, thanks to Dr. Saraki, his committee, and the solid backing from the PDP Governors’ Forum, the party has proved the sceptics wrong,” Sulaiman reflected.
“The recent 100th, 101st, and 102nd NEC meetings were all held peacefully, and lingering disputes have finally been laid to rest.”
With plans for the party’s convention and a new zoning formula underway, the PDP Renaissance group is confident the opposition remains well-positioned for a comeback against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The party stands ready to reclaim leadership from a government that has lost touch with the people’s needs,” Sulaiman added.
The Saraki-led reconciliation panel was established to cool frayed nerves and restore harmony—a mission the PDP Renaissance group says has now been successfully accomplished.
