Ghana – Anim Addo to respond to GFA charge in due time

Sammy Anim Addo, the president of Young Apostles, a Ghana Premier League team, has expressed his commitment to abide by the regulations set forth by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after being charged by the Disciplinary Committee.

He faced charges due to comments he made on social media regarding referee Maxwell Hanson, alleging that Hanson was involved in questionable activities on behalf of the GFA. These comments stemmed from Hanson’s controversial officiating during Accra Lions’ 0-1 defeat against Dreams FC, prompting Anim Addo to advocate for urgent reforms in the Ghana Premier League.

Despite the plea for reforms, tensions rose as Dreams FC accused Accra Lions of hypocrisy.

Details of the GFA Charge

Samuel Anim Addo has been charged with violating Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019, due to his social media comments. Allegations state that his remarks constitute misconduct that tarnishes the reputation of the GFA and the Ghana Premier League. It is claimed that his comments included baseless accusations against a match official. He has until January 13, 2024, to respond to these charges.

Anim Addo’s Reaction

During an interview on Joy News’ Prime Sports, Anim Addo mentioned that he will respond appropriately at the right time:

I am a law-abiding citizen, and I respect the rules of the game. When the time arrives for me to reply, I will do so as per the regulations. However, the video evidence is available for everyone to assess. The quality will speak for itself.

He reiterated his belief that Ghanaian football is facing challenges and emphasized the urgent need for corrective actions within the system.

The state of the sport is declining, and improvements are imperative.

As the deadline of January 13 approaches, the football community anticipates his formal response.
