Police Arrest Suspected Terrorist in Kebbi

Kebbi Police apprehend suspected Lakurawa bandit, recover 10 stolen cattle in Bunza LGA

The Kebbi State police command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected Lakurawa terrorist and the recovery of 10 stolen cows in Bachaka, a community within Bunza Local Government Area, the Nigeria Police Force announced on Tuesday.

The command’s spokesperson released a statement in Birnin Kebbi, detailing the operation that led to the arrest. Around 5:30 p.m. on August 31, officers, acting on reliable intelligence, apprehended Salihu Umar, aged 42, from Dogon Dutse in neighboring Niger Republic. Umar was nabbed at the Bachaka cattle market in possession of 10 cows believed to be stolen.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the recovered cattle belonged to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town in Bunza LGA. Aliyu had previously reported that 68 of his cows were rustled on August 20 by suspected Lakurawa bandits, who subsequently escaped across the border into Niger Republic.

“This recovery marks a significant achievement in our ongoing fight against cattle rustling,” the spokesperson stated.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police commended the Division Police Officer in Bachaka and his team for their courageous and intelligence-driven response, praising their efforts as exemplary in proactive law enforcement.

“The Commissioner has encouraged the officers to keep up this momentum,” the spokesperson added.

Following this breakthrough, Commissioner Sani has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for a thorough probe. The goal is to arrest additional suspects still at large and to recover more stolen livestock.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating violent crime, the Commissioner urged Kebbi residents to stay alert and maintain active cooperation with security personnel.

“The command appeals to the people of Kebbi to actively support the police and other security agencies by providing timely and accurate information for prompt action,” the statement read.
