Former Nigeria international, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has urged Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare to fill in for Victor Osimhen during his absence from the Super Eagles.
Aiyegbeni made this request ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa scheduled for Tuesday evening.
It is worth noting that Osimhen sustained an injury in the match against Rwanda and will not be available for the fixture against South Africa.
“Although Victor Osimhen is eager to be on the field, unfortunately, he will not be able to participate,” Aiyegbeni expressed to Soccer Beat.
“We have other strikers [Tolu Arokodare and Cyriel Dessers]. It’s crucial for them to step up and take on a leading role so that the team isn’t solely reliant on one player.
“We are aware of Osimhen’s tenacity on the field, and now it’s time for these players to rise to the occasion and bring pride to the country.”
