Describing the competition as a trailblazing initiative, Chinedu noted the positive impact it had on his life and potentially on many others in his community.

In a one-on-one discussion with our correspondent, Chinedu shared insights into his passion for cooking and the journey that brought him to this victorious moment.

He explained:

From a young age, I was inspired by my mother, a professional cook who catered for public occasions. I was her shadow in the kitchen, picking up her techniques and passion for cooking, out of her seven children, I was the one who truly caught the culinary bug. By age eight, I was already immersed in assisting caterers during public events, honing my craft well ahead of my years. To this day, there isn’t a dish I cannot master.

My journey as a cook truly began at just eight years old. My enthusiasm for culinary arts led me to team up with seasoned caterers, learning the ropes while assisting with various event catering duties, from washing dishes to preparing meals.

Although I never enrolled in any formal culinary school, I had a dream when I was 16, where I envisioned myself as ‘Edu Special Kitchen.’ It was a sign, and from that moment, I started planning my culinary future. With the support of friends and family who brought me cooking jobs, I established myself. Today, I am proud to say I am one of the most in-demand cooks in the town.

Fond Memories from the Cook’s Mother

We delve deeper into Chinedu’s formative years through the words of his mother, Josephine. In an exclusive conversation, she shared cherished memories of nurturing Chinedu’s interest in cooking by always having him by her side in the kitchen. Encouraging him to practice, she gave him the foundation which would later transform into a successful career.

There were times when his father, Okeke Azuka, was skeptical and would question my decision to include Chinedu in culinary activities. But I was determined that he be self-sufficient for the future, whether working under someone as an apprentice or in his own household.

With my extensive experience in preparing traditional African cuisines, I imparted my knowledge to him. Watching him advance to professional levels and earn a good living through his talent is indeed fulfilling.

Josephine expressed her gratitude to the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe KON Orizu II, along with the Nzukora Nnewi town union led by Chief Jude Osumuo. She believes that such initiatives are instrumental in harnessing local talent, bringing out the best potential in every individual, and nurturing their passion for a prosperous future.

Troubling Incident at Corps Members’ Lodge

In a different vein, footage recently surfaced involving a concerning scenario in Anambra state, showing a clash involving armed vigilantes and NYSC corps members. This incident, linked to the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, saw these operatives storming a corps members’ lodge, resulting in an altercation despite the victims’ attempts to assert their identities.

These events serve as a reminder of the need for community unity and awareness, encouraging healthy avenues, such as culinary competitions, to uplift and genuinely connect communities.
