MultiChoice Ghana (DStv) has reaffirmed its commitment to engage with a Stakeholder Committee initiated by Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations in Ghana, to assess DStv pricing in the country. The company has pledged its full cooperation in this review process.
The inaugural meeting of the Committee is set for today, Monday, September 8, 2025.
This development arises amidst tensions between the company and the Minister regarding a proposed 30% reduction in subscription charges.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) disclosed in a statement that MultiChoice Ghana has responded to the suspension notice issued on August 7 and has shared details of its pricing structure. The NCA clarified that:
-
MultiChoice Ghana concurs with the Ministry’s directive to establish a Stakeholder Committee for the assessment of DStv pricing and has expressed its willingness to engage fully.
-
The Committee’s outcomes will be communicated at the conclusion of its deliberations.
-
MultiChoice has reiterated its commitment to adhere to due process, Ghanaian regulations, and the citizens of Ghana.
The NCA assured the public that further updates will be provided in the upcoming days.
This development follows a firm directive from the Minister at the Government Accountability Series on August 1. He demanded a 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees by August 7, cautioning that non-compliance could lead to the revocation of the company’s broadcasting license.
Mr. George also highlighted the discrepancy between pricing in Ghana and Nigeria, noting that Ghanaian subscribers pay $83 for the premium package, while their Nigerian counterparts pay only $29 for equivalent services.
