Barring any changes, Nigeria’s federal government is expected to announce a public holiday in early September 2025 for the celebration of Eid-ul-Maulud, giving both public workers and residents time to observe this important occasion.
Eid-ul-Maulud, which marks the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad, is an annual Islamic event observed on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
On this day, Muslims across Nigeria and around the world gather to remember the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. The day is celebrated with prayers, religious gatherings, special sermons, and communal activities. It’s a time for reflection, acts of kindness, and promoting values such as patience, love, and community unity. Charitable acts and togetherness are also encouraged throughout the celebration.
In light of this, Eid-ul-Maulud is the only official public holiday scheduled in September 2025, helping Nigerians plan their calendars in advance.
According to the Islamic lunar calendar, the most probable date for the nationwide Eid-ul-Maulud public holiday in 2025 is Friday, September 5.
