Tinubu’s Aide Thanks Finland for Jailing Simon Ekpa

Dada Olusegun Reacts as Finnish Court Jails Simon Ekpa for Terror-Related Offenses

Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, has responded to the recent news of prominent Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa’s imprisonment in Finland.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a Finnish district court found Ekpa guilty of terrorism-related offenses and ordered his imprisonment.

The Finnish authorities had previously arrested Ekpa and four others in November 2024 over allegations of involvement in terrorist activities, including the promotion of violence and the financing of terrorism.

According to Finnish law enforcement, Ekpa—who identifies himself as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile—had used social media to incite violence in Nigeria’s South-East, targeting both citizens and government officials.

Following the investigation, the Päijät-Häme District Court ruled that Ekpa be remanded on charges of public incitement to commit a terrorist crime.

Reacting to the news of Ekpa’s sentence, Olusegun expressed his gratitude towards Finland by posting on his 𝕏 account (formerly Twitter):

He wrote, “Thank you so much @thisisFINLAND.”

In March 2025, the Nigerian government also placed Simon Ekpa and several others on its official sanctions list due to accusations of financing terrorism.

This move came after high-level meetings of the Nigeria Sanctions Committee held in Abuja and followed recommendations from relevant authorities.

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) explained that, in accordance with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022, the government is empowered to sanction individuals and groups tied to terrorist activity.

The NFIU also announced that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), with approval from President Tinubu, had officially authorized the listing of the named individuals and entities.

As part of these enforcement measures, security agencies have been ordered to identify and freeze all assets, funds, and economic resources belonging to those on the sanctions list, without prior notification.
