Tinubu Intervened After My TVC Dismissal – Morayo Afolabi-Brown

Media figure and ex-TV executive, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, recently shared a story about how President Bola Tinubu played a pivotal role during a challenging period in her broadcasting career.

In a conversation with media host Chude Jideonwo, Afolabi-Brown opened up about being unexpectedly let go from her position at TVC after three years, a move she attributed to internal company politics.

She further revealed that her reinstatement was made possible after Tinubu was informed of her situation and chose to intervene.

Three years after joining TVC, I was dismissed because of office politics. It was only after my departure that people reached out to Asiwaju, alerting him and asking, ‘Do you realize who was just sacked?’” she recalled.

At the time, Tinubu, who was no longer serving as Lagos State governor, did not initially know she was involved.

He said, ‘I am not aware,’” she recounted.

It was only after Toyin Subair, Tunji Bello, and my then-CEO Mr. Lemmy contacted him and said, ‘Sir, Alao’s daughter has been let go,’ that he realized it was me,” she continued.

According to Afolabi-Brown, Tinubu invited her for a meeting to better understand what had transpired.

He called me in and simply asked, ‘What happened?’ After much discussion, I was allowed back, although I was returned to a lower position,” she explained.

She emphasized, however, that her original appointment at TVC had nothing to do with Tinubu, stressing that she earned her spot through her own efforts.

“It’s important to clarify that my job wasn’t secured through his connection. I got in on my own merits,” she stated.

Afolabi-Brown, who recently announced her resignation from TVC, gained widespread recognition as the longstanding host of ‘Your View’, the widely-watched morning talk show.
