Delta State Woman Arrested After Fatal Domestic Dispute With Partner
A 21-year-old woman, identified as Lilian, has been taken into custody by the Delta State Police Command following the fatal stabbing of her 34-year-old partner during a domestic altercation on Ijanpa Road.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest via his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday.
According to Edafe, Lilian had been living with the victim since she was 17 years old.
During police questioning, Lilian reportedly admitted to stabbing her partner in the chest after an argument between them escalated into violence.
Edafe relayed, “She stated that he wanted to end their relationship, sparking a heated disagreement.
She claimed he struck her with a cane and slammed her head onto the ground, prompting her to run to the kitchen where she grabbed a knife.
When he came toward her, she stabbed him, despite having warned him to stay back.”
Lilian told police that she acted in self-defense after her partner attempted to break up with her. She said this confrontation sparked a quarrel that soon turned violent.
She further alleged that her partner hit her repeatedly with both a cane and a comb and expressed deep regret over the incident.
“We have lived together for four years and share two sons—one is three and the other is two,” Lilian stated.
“On Monday, something changed in his demeanor, and we stopped speaking. I asked him to retrieve the meter from our neighbor so we could recharge electricity, but he ignored me.
We began arguing, after which he beat me with a cane and hit my head on the ground. In distress, I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and—when he came towards me—I stabbed him.
I am deeply saddened by his death.”
Edafe stated that the suspect will be charged with murder, and he urged members of the public to seek peaceful solutions and avoid letting anger lead to irreversible consequences.
